Carver Capsule
Alabama was a one-crop state when George Washington Carver started his work at Tuskegee. Carver crusaded for diversified farms that produced more than cotton. When farmers began to heed his advice to plant peanuts and sweet potatoes, surpluses occurred. Carver took to his lab, coming up with hundreds of new uses for peanuts and potatoes.
