Day-long diversity fest planned

"Diversity Day" will focus on academic, cultural, artistic and athletic opportunities at Iowa State. Events will run from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, in the Memorial Union.

George Jackson, assistant dean of the graduate college and dean for recruitment and outreach, will open the day with a keynote address titled "Diversity Means You" at 10 a.m. in the Gallery.

A series of sessions will follow the keynote address from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. These include "What the Legacy of George Washington Carver Has Meant to Me," a lecture by Sande McNabb, professor of forestry and plant pathology, at 11 a.m.; the Zulu African Drum & Dance Connection workshop at 1 p.m.; and "The Importance of Cultural Heritage and a Positive Sense of Ethnic Identity," a lecture by Meaghan Kozar, program assistant for Minority Student Affairs, at 2 p.m.

A diversity fair from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Sun Room will feature booths with information about Iowa State's multicultural student organizations. The day will conclude with a performance by the Zulu African Drum & Dance Connection at 9 p.m. in the Great Hall.
