ISU summer dance workshop starts June 23

ISU Dance, in conjunction with Iowa Dance Theater, will sponsor the 11th annual Iowa State University Summer Dance Workshop June 23-27 in the Betty Toman Dance Studios, Forker Building. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, and at 8:30 a.m. daily Wednesday through Saturday.

The summer workshop features guest instructors from around the world and offers students a sampling of different styles of dance. In addition to ISU dance faculty, instructors include Natalia Chapuskaya, who danced and trained with the Bolshoi Ballet; Sara Ayers, River North Company, Chicago; and Marc Kotz of the dance faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. Students will receive training in ballet, jazz, modern, improvisation, character and folk dancing.

Students this year will participate in student showings Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Several of these pieces will be selected for a gala concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Ames City Auditorium, 515 Clark Ave. Tickets are $8 ($4 students, $5 seniors) at the door.

The workshop registration fee is $175 for the five days or $15 for single classes.
