Office of Civil Rights to review ISU

The U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights (OCR) will conduct a review at Iowa State April 27-May 1. The office routinely conducts reviews of universities around the nation. The review will assess Iowa State's compliance with Title VI, which prohibits recipients of federal financial assistance from discriminating on the basis of race, color or national origin.

OCR officials said the review will focus on the aftermath of the university renaming a building in honor of Carrie Chapman Catt and the treatment of African-American students.

Employees or students who would like to discuss issues with OCR officials should call Patricia Boyd, (816) 880-4200, or drop off meeting requests in the locked "election box" located at the Government of Student Body office, G43 Memorial Union. Those who want to offer written comments also may leave those comments in the GSB box.
