Daughters day at work is April 23

by Anne Dolan

The sixth annual "Take Our Daughters to Work Day" will be observed Thursday, April 23, and the University Committee on Women invites the ISU community to celebrate the day locally. Faculty and staff are encouraged to bring their daughters, especially those ages 11-16, to work with them that day.

From 2 to 4 p.m. April 23, open houses will be hosted by the Margaret Sloss Women's Center; the YWCA, 15 Alumni Hall; the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, 309 Catt; Program for Women in Science and Engineering, 210 Lab of Mechanics; and the Archives for Women in Science and Engineering, 403 Parks Library.

Marcia Purdy of the women's center said employees and their daughters are invited to any of the locations to learn more about academic programs of interest to young women.

The national day was established by the Ms. Foundation to focus attention on girls' abilities and help them see lots of possibilities for their futures.

Purdy said an Iowa State focus to the day will be higher education as a stepping stone to broader opportunities.
