Correction

The April 3 issue of Inside reported that the intrasquad football scrimmage at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, is free. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Central Stores closed for a week

Central Stores will be closed for inventory Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 1.

May Basket workshop

The Reiman Garden CoHorts will hold a May Basket workshop for children from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Mahlstede Building, Reiman Gardens. Space is available for 75 children, accompanied by an adult. The cost is $1 per child, payable at the workshop. Registration is requested by calling 4-2710.

Bioethics Institute deadline extended

The deadline for applications to the ISU Bioethics Institute has been extended to April 24. The institute, to be held May 10-14 at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center, will help life scientists discuss ethical issues with their students. New positions in Engineering

Two new positions have been created in the College of Engineering. Anne Ahrens, formerly in ISU's special recruitment programs, serves as international programs director, managing the development of international opportunities for students and faculty. A college goal is for at least 25 percent of undergraduate students and 60 percent of faculty to have an inter-national, engineering-related opportunity.

Monica Bruning is coordinator of recruitment and outreach to middle and high school students. She came to Iowa State from Montana Tech of the University of Montana, Butte.

Miller fills associate dean post

Agronomy professor Gerald Miller will assume new responsibilities May 1 as associate dean for extension and industry programs in the College of Agriculture. Miller's responsibilities will include coordinating the college's extension programs and working with agricultural businesses and commodity organizations in the state. Miller has served as an extension agronomist for 24 years.

Course in van driving offered

A course to help drivers handle 15-passenger vans will be offered Monday, May 8. The course, open to all faculty, staff and students, will be from 8 to 11:45 a.m. in Room 8 at the Fire Service Institute on Haber Road. The cost is $20, payable by intramural to Transportation Services. Call 4-3414 to register.

Town and Gown piano recital

Pianist Brian Ganz will perform as part of the Ames Town and Gown Chamber Music Series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Music Building Recital Hall. Ganz has won or placed at several international piano competitions and appeared as a soloist with orchestras around the world. Tickets are $15 and available from the music department and at the door.

National champs

Iowa State's student Meat Animal Evaluation Team won the national title at the 1998 United National Collegiate Meat Animal Evaluation Contest, held last month in St. Joseph, Mo., and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. It was the second national championship for an ISU team in seven years. Associate professor of animal science Brad Skaar is the team coach.

Research funding available

The Center for Advanced Technology Development has funding available to help support cooperative research projects with Iowa companies. The funds, from the Iowa Industrial Incentive Program, can be used to cover 30 to 50 percent of the total project costs, with companies contributing the rest. Funding will range from $1,000 to $25,000. For more info, contact CATD, 4-4055.

Greimann reappointed chair

Lowell Greimann has been reappointed chair of the civil and construction engineering department. His five-year term begins July 1. Greimann has served as department chair since 1990.

Leadership conference for faculty, staff is May 27

Four speakers will discuss power, leadership and decision making in a May 27 conference for ISU faculty and staff. The Power and Ethics Leadership Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center. The registration deadline is May 15.
