Carole Custer, director of university marketing, was one of 33 marketing professionals invited to present papers at the 1997 Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education, Boston, sponsored by the American Marketing Assn. About 400 representatives of colleges and universities attended the symposium. Custer's presentation focused on ISU's research- based approach to launching a revitalized visual identity program for the athletic department.
Mary Ann Tetreault, professor of political science, received the 1998 Sophonisba Breckinridge Award from the the Midwest Political Science Assn. for the best paper on women and politics presented at the group's 1997 convention.
Editorial board appointment
John Eighmey, chair of the department of journalism and mass communication, has been appointed to the editorial review board of the Journal of Advertising Research, the leading journal on empirical studies of the effects of advertising in the marketplace.
ISU Printing Services received two Silver Awards and one Judge's Citation Award in the annual Iowa Print Week Awards and Gallery of Superb Printing, sponsored by three print professional associations. The Silver Awards were for two pieces printed for the Residence Department; one of these also received the citation in another category.
Mark Engelbrecht, dean of the College of Design, has been named to the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) College of Fellows for contributions of national significance to the architectural field. There are more than 59,000 AIA members, but only 2,300 members are fellows. Engelbrecht was cited for his work in education that has impacted and inspired others in the field and profession. He has worked in architecture for 31 years and directs his own practice, Engelbrecht and Griffin Architects, P.C., with offices in Newburyport, Mass. and Des Moines.
