Top speakers headline May leadership seminar

by Diana Pounds

Top speakers will headline an all-day "Power and Ethics in Leadership" conference for ISU faculty and staff Wednesday, May 27.

"We have an excellent lineup of international, national and local speakers," said Vicky Thorland-Oster, training specialist in Human Resource Services. "They will help conference participants explore the effects of power on leadership and higher education's role in providing ethical leadership."

Speakers for the conference are Edwin Nichols, an organizational development consultant with Nichols and Associates Inc., Washington, D.C.; J. Scott Raecker, executive director of the Legacy 150 Institute, Des Moines; Mary Fisher, a Kansas City humorist and "EnterTrainer"; and Patricia Morgan, United Nations director general for women and children's issues and educational consultant. The conference will held at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for faculty and staff to participate in a premiere, professional development experience close to home," Thorland-Oster said.

The registration fee of $50 includes a full day of training (8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and lunch. Conference registration forms will be mailed to all faculty and staff in March.

Leadership development has been a special emphasis of the training and development office this year, Thorland-Oster said. Information on leadership training activities that are available to faculty and staff can be found on the Training and Development Web page at www.iastate.edu/~training_info/.
