Livestock facility dedication Nov. 22

Ground will be broken Saturday, Nov. 22, for the Livestock Infectious Disease Isolation Facility. The 10:30 a.m. ceremony will be held at the Veterinary Medical Research Institute at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The 27,000-square-foot building will be used by ISU faculty to continue and expand their research to safeguard the health of Iowa livestock and make food production more efficient, said Richard Ross, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The state-of-the-art facility will provide needed housing for large animals used in infectious disease research. Scientists will focus on food safety, enhancing animal immunities and developing new vaccines and better diagnostic tests.

The building is scheduled for completion in spring 1999.
