Five Ames women have received Strong-Minded Women Awards from the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics.

Recipients of the award are Elizabeth Kay Andre, an ISU student with a double major in Spanish and international studies; Martha Benson, former director of the Octagon Center for the Arts; Beverly Crabtree, dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences; Pat Miller, director of the Lectures Program; and Dorcas J. Speer, formerly with WOI Radio, WOI-TV and the ISU Extension Service.

The winners were selected on the basis of activism in the community, political arena or workplace. The awards were presented at an April banquet.
