Regents approve name change for stadium

The Iowa Board of Regents Feb. 19 approved an ISU request to change the name of Cyclone Stadium to Jack Trice Stadium. The football field, formerly known as Jack Trice Field, no longer will have a separate name. The regents voted 7-2 to approve the recommendation from President Martin Jischke to name the facility for Trice, who died from injuries sustained in a football game in 1923.

Regents Tom Dorr and Nancy Pellett voted against the motion, citing phone calls and letters they had received in opposition to the proposal.

Jischke's recommendation followed a Government of the Student Body recommendation to rename the stadium for Trice and subsequent study by a university committee. The committee's recommendation to Jischke in January also supported the name change.
