Artist in residence featured in concert

The ISU Symphony Orchestra's "Rush Hour" concert on Thursday, Nov. 7, will feature soprano Jane Olian performing Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs. Also featured will be the Iowa premiere of Jeffrey Hoover's Bring Light! (for a brass ensemble) and the first and third movements of Dvorak's Symphony No. 8. The concert begins at 5:10 p.m. in the Music Building Recital Hall. Tickets are $2 at the door.

Olian is an artist-in-residence this month in the music department. A professional performer, she also teaches voice at New York University, Aaron Copland School of Music/Queens College and the Manhattan School of Music, Preparatory Division. Her recent performances include a Midwestern tour in Madame Butterfly with the Minnesota Opera as Cio Cio San.

Hoover is a versatile composer, conductor and saxophonist. He serves as chair of fine, performing and applied arts at Illinois Central College, East Peoria.
