Oboe, bassoon festival features competitions
A day-long festival for oboe and bassoon players will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, in the Music Hall. The event will include competitions among high school oboists and bassoonists, clinics and demonstra-tions, and an evening concert.
The 7 p.m. concert in the Recital Hall will include oboe and bassoon solo works, a bassoon trio and several compositions performed by the Double Reed Ensemble of Iowa.
The concert also will feature a contra bassoon trio. The contra bassoon is twice the length of a normal bassoon. Stretched out straight, it would be approximately 16 feet long.
Cost of the Oct-Ob-Boon-Fest is $8 in advance, $10 at the door. The concert only is $5 at the door. For more information or to register, contact Kevin Schilling, 4- 3345.
