Kathleen Jones named registrar

by Steve Sullivan
Associate registrar Kathleen Jones is the new university registrar, effective Oct. 1.

The registrar's office registers students in courses, maintains student records, evaluates the graduation status of students, coordinates commencement ceremonies, and transmits information about student enrollment and academic records to appropriate offices and persons.

"As university registrar, Kathy Jones will continue her history of outstanding, dedicated service to Iowa State and the registrar's office," said Tom Thielen, vice president for student affairs.

Jones has been associate registrar for systems and records at ISU since 1995. Among the positions she has held since joining the Office of the Registrar in 1972 are assistant registrar (1976-1987) and associate registrar for scheduling (1987-1995).

Jones received a B.S. in mathematics from Iowa State in 1972. She also received an M.S. in professional studies in education, specializing in higher education, from ISU in 1978 and currently is a Ph.D. candidate in the same area.

Jones succeeds John Sjoblom, who retired June 30.
