Search launched for UR director

Nominations for a director of University Relations are being sought by the recently appointed search committee. David Holger, associate dean in the College of Engineering, chairs the committee.

The director of University Relations oversees several units, including News Service, Internal Communications and Photo Service. The director also serves as the spokesperson for the university.

"University Relations is an important and highly active department, literally involved in all aspects of the university," said Murray Blackwelder, vice president for external affairs. "The director of this department oversees our external and internal communications efforts, which promote the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students. The position also has a central role in creating, coordinating and communicating key messages about Iowa State's strengths as a land-grant university."

Nominations and applications should be sent to Holger, University Relations Director Search Committee, Vice President for External Affairs Office, 209 Beardshear. Nominations also may be given directly to members of the search committee.

Search committee members include: Holger; Dalene Abner, ISU Foundation; Karen Bolluyt, College of Agriculture; Dar Danielson, KASI Radio; Earl Dowling, Student Financial Aid; John Eighmey, Journalism and Mass Communication; Mary Ann Evans, Women in Science and Engineering; Adam Gold, Government of the Student Body; Rich Harter, Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau; Tom Kroeschell, Athletics; Jim Meek, Extension and P&S Council; Ellen Rasmusssen, Provost's Office and All-University Community Council; Steve Sullivan, News Service; Denise Vrchota, Journalism and Mass Communication and Faculty Senate; and Tanya Zanish, Committee on Women and Library.

John Anderson is serving as interim director of University Relations.
