Inside Iowa State Nov. 10, 1995 Where To go If There's Snow by Linda Charles Cold, snowy mornings are just around the corner. When they come, after you've found your boots and mittens, shoveled the driveway and cleaned off your car, there's one more thing you should do -- listen to your local news station. Area radio and TV stations and newspapers will be notified when the Iowa State winter storm parking plan is in effect, said Gary Reynolds, director of facilities management. When it is, drivers should park in one of three designated parking areas -- the southwest corner of the Iowa State Center, north of Molecular Biology or south of Food Technology. These lots will be cleared first and available for parking by 7:30 a.m., Reynolds said. All valid ISU parking permits will be honored in the designated lots while the plan is in effect. Drivers parking at the Iowa State Center can catch Cy-Ride buses to campus. The buses (with orange signs on the front and side) run at 4- to 8-minute intervals from the center. The plan, developed last year, is intended to ensure that streets and sidewalks are cleared adequately for campus traffic and that drivers have a place to park. When the plan is in effect, drivers are asked not to park in their usual parking lots until they have been cleared. The plan will be invoked only when heavy or late-falling snow prevents staff from clearing all streets, sidewalks and parking areas by 7:30 a.m. Reynolds said the plan gives priority to streets, sidewalks and the designated parking lots. During poor weather, faculty, staff and students are encouraged to use the city Cy-Ride system. Additional buses will be added to regular routes during these times, Reynolds said. __________ University Relations Iowa State University
