EXTERNAL AFFAIRS SEARCH COMMITTEE SEEKS CANDIDATES

Nominations for a new vice president for external affairs are 
being sought by the search committee, said committee chair 
Benjamin Allen, dean of the College of Business. 

"We want to have a very inclusive national search," Allen 
said. "The committee intends to be proactive in identifying 
and recruiting viable candidates."

The committee plans to begin screening candidates during the 
last week in November, Allen said, and present a list of 
finalists to President Martin Jischke in February.
Reid Crawford, who had led external affairs since 1991, left 
in September to become vice president for institutional 
advancement at the University of Maryland, College Park. He 
also is serving as vice president of the University of 
Maryland Foundation Inc.

Murray Blackwelder, president of the ISU Foundation, is 
serving as interim vice president for external affairs.
The vice president for external affairs oversees several 
university units, including Athletics, University Relations, 
the Iowa State University Foundation, WOI AM-FM Radio, 
University Museums, the Alumni Association and the Iowa State 
Center.

The committee is looking for candidates with outstanding 
records of leadership and administrative experience, 
preferably in a university setting, Allen said. Candidates 
also should have a commitment to the land-grant philosophy 
and demonstrated commitment to equal opportunity and 
affirmative action.

"We are optimistic that we will have a strong pool of 
candidates," Allen said, "because we believe this is an 
attractive and challenging position."

The committee is seeking help in identifying possible
