Inside Iowa State Oct. 13, 1995 _________________ VISION 2020 Visits Forum by Anne Dolan Iowa State's continued involvement in the VISION 2020 project--with a perspective on the classroom--will be the focus of the next Faculty Forum Monday, Oct. 16. Ann Schultz and Bill Silag, coordinator and associate coordinator, respectively, of the VISION 2020 effort at Iowa State, will lead a discussion on implementing change in ISU classrooms to improve students' educational experiences. In January, Iowa State begins a five-year implementation phase of VISION 2020, with $1.5 million to award in minigrants to teams of educators with ideas to test. VISION 2020 is a nationwide project to anticipate what food systems will be like in the year 2020 and what changes need to occur before then in educating and training food systems professionals. It is funded by the Kellogg Foundation. Schultz said the implementation phase will not be restricted to proposals related to food production, delivery, availability or consumption. Proposals with broad teaching applications to other disciplines are welcome, she said. During the Faculty Forum discussion, Schultz and Silag will solicit volunteers or nominations for an Academic Core Team that over the next five years will develop more ideas for necessary changes in education. Half of the core team's membership will be ISU faculty; half will come from Iowa community colleges. The dinner portion of the Faculty Forum begins at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Union Campanile Room. The cost of dinner is $10, and reservations should be made by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, with Jane Henning, 4-2906, or e-mail: njhenni@iastate.edu. The discussion begins at approximately 6:45 p.m. __________ University Relations Iowa State University
