FALL EXTRAVAGANZA The 1995 Fall Extravaganza, sponsored by the AIDS Coalition of Story County, the ISU Student Health Advisory Committee and the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Alliance, will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Memorial Union Sun Room. A social begins at 7 p.m., followed by dancing and a costume contest from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Door prizes include a hot air balloon ride, an autographed copy of Jane Smiley's Moo and a hang gliding lesson. RESEARCH VIDEOCONFERENCE National policy on scientific research will be discussed during a videoconference from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in 144 Durham. Neal Lane, National Science Foundation director, and a panel will lead the discussion during the first hour. The second hour will be devoted to questions from the audiences at participating institutions. While the videoconference is free, advance registration is required due to limited seating. WOMEN IN SCIENCE CONFERENCE "Making Connections: Networking for Success," an informal conference for women in science and engineering, will be held Nov. 11 at the Memorial Union. Kathleen Trahanovsky, adjunct associate professor of chemistry, will give the keynote address. There also will be panel and roundtable discussions on topics relevant to women on science, engineering and technology tracks. HOUSING WORKSHOP A workshop on "Federal Budget Cuts: Impact on Affordable Housing and How to Respond" will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Best Western Starlite Village. BRUNNIER MUSEUM DOLLS Iowa State University Museums officials will host a public forum at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in 299 Scheman to collect input on the future of the Brunnier Museum's doll collection. A proposed reduction in the collection has been studied for nearly two years. People who cannot attend the forum may send written comments to the Brunnier Art Museum, 290 Scheman, by Nov. 10. UNDERGRADUATE TRAVEL FUNDS Undergraduate students attending regional, national and international conferences may qualify to receive funds through the offices of the Provost and the Vice President for Student Affairs. Maximum awards are $400 for students presenting at conferences and $100 for students attending conferences but not presenting. The funds are distributed on a "first come" basis.
