Coach Randall Heads To U Of Kansas A national search for a new head baseball coach is under way, and athletic director Gene Smith hopes a new coach will be on the job by early December. Head baseball coach Bobby Randall resigned Sept. 8 to take the head coaching position at the University of Kansas. Randall, a native of Kansas and former Minnesota Twins second baseman, compiled a 309-311 overall record and 107-155 Big Eight record during 11 seasons as head coach of the Cyclones. Smith said Randall built up Iowa State's program "with integrity, outstanding student-athletes and respectability. With this strong foundation based in a squad of seasoned young veterans and Iowa State's commitment to this program, we will be able to attract a high-caliber coach." Smith said improvements to Cap Timm Field and the university's scholarship endowment fund for student-athletes also will strengthen the baseball program. Assistant baseball coach Lyle Smith, who has been on the Iowa State staff for 11 years, is serving as interim head coach. _____ contact: News Service, (515) 294-4778 updated: 9-29-95
