Back At The Helm Tom Barton, distinguished professor in chemistry, has returned to his former post as director of the Ames Laboratory. He served as director from 1988 to 1994, when he decided to return full time to teaching and research. ISU officials turned to Barton after an extensive national search for his successor and amid concerns about the future of the U.S. Department of Energy and its labs. "We obviously needed someone who had considerable experience in the system and could hit the ground running, and we're extremely pleased that Dr. Barton agreed to return," said Provost John Kozak. Jim Corones, professor of mathematics, served as interim director of the laboratory. He has returned to his post as director of the lab's applied mathematical sciences program and its environmental technology development program, which he established in 1990. _____ contact: Internal Communications, (515) 294-3129 updated: 9-15-95
