The committee, which is conducting a national search, plans to begin screening candidates in mid-October. An appointment could come early next year. Former affirmative action officer David Torres resigned Aug. 1, accepting an eight-month adjunct position in the department of professional studies in the College of Education. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to the concepts of affirmative action and equal opportunity; significant knowledge of civil rights laws; an understanding of or experience in implementing a comprehensive equal opportunity/affirmative action program; and an advanced degree. Whitaker said a joint faculty appointment would be possible and that those with academic expertise in affirmative action, sexual harassment, higher education or human resources are encouraged to apply.
