Hartwig Named Interim Head of Extension Nolan R. Hartwig has been named interim vice provost for extension. "Dr. Hartwig's commitments to Iowa State Extension are long standing. I appreciate his willingness to take on responsibility for a complex organization so central to the university," Provost John Kozak said. Hartwig will assume a position held by Robert Anderson since 1990. In June, Anderson announced his decision to leave the position to return to teaching. He has assumed responsibilities as a professor in the electrical engineering and computer engineering department. Hartwig received a DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1964. After five years in private practice and service with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, he received a master's degree from The Ohio State University in veterinary preventive medicine in 1973. From 1974 to 1983, he served as a faculty member and extension veterinarian at Ohio State. In 1983, he returned to ISU as professor of veterinary clinical sciences and extension veterinarian. For the past year, Hartwig has served as interim director of ISU Extension to Agriculture. A new interim director of ISU Extension to Agriculture will be chosen within the next few weeks. "The strategic plans for the university and for extension itself call for national leadership in implementing outreach programs within and across disciplines. Dr. Hartwig will continue to foster this theme as he provides leadership to the extension program," Kozak said. A national search for a permanent vice provost for extension should begin shortly after Labor Day, he added. _____ contact: Internal Communications, (515) 294-3129 updated: 8-17-95
