P&S Council Elects New Officers by Anne Dolan Darlene Gluck, manager of facilities, engineering and safety for the Institute for Physical Research and Technology, was elected president of the Professional & Scientific Council for the 1995-96 year. Other officers elected at the May 4 meeting to the council's executive committee are: --Vice president: Ralph Knox, associate scientist, Microelectronics Research Center. --Secretary: Dennis Ethington, purchasing manager, residence halls system. --At-large positions: Katy Rice, administrative assistant to the dean, College of Education; and Dan Woodin, information systems leader, Administrative Data Processing. In other business: The council approved the following mission statement: "The Iowa State University Professional and Scientific (P&S) Council serves as a resource and an advocate for P&S employees. The council identifies the needs of its constituents, provides information and advice in response to those needs, and recommends to the administration policies and procedures that benefit P&S employees and assist it in fulfilling the mission of the university." The council also approved a proposal to replace the current "purpose" in the council's constitution with the mission statement. The constitutional amendment will require a vote by P&S employees in the March 1996 election. --Dorothy Sally, Personnel Office liaison to the council, said a review is under way of all program assistant and administrative assistant positions. Several requests for reclassification from Merit to P&S status within those series prompted the review, she said. The review will consider such things as job descriptions, degree requirements and fair labor issues and will include input from administrative and program assistants, Sally said. The next P&S Council meeting is Thursday, June 1, in 257 Applied Science II.
