Rodriguez Appointed Minority Student Affairs Director Rafael Rodriguez, project director of student support services at Green River Community College, near Seattle, Wash., has been appointed director of the Minority Student Affairs Office. Rodriguez is expected to begin his duties at Iowa State in early summer. "Rafael Rodriguez will be a great asset in Iowa State's efforts to serve the needs of our minority students," said Tom Thielen, vice president for student affairs. "He has had great success working with students from all American minority groups. He has extensive experience working with faculty and staff in developing academic, financial, cultural and social support networks, and other programs to assist students in being successful. "Rodriguez received an enthusiastic response from students, faculty and staff who met him during the interview process," he added. Rodriguez has served in his current position at Green River Community College since 1993. He also worked as a minority specialist for Mesa State College, Grand Junction, Colo., from 1990 to 1993, and as a university counselor for the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, from 1978 to 1990. He received the B.A. in psychology and Spanish in 1981 and the M.A. in education in 1988 from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Rodriguez will fill a vacancy created when George Jackson became special assistant to the provost in the fall of 1994.
