Lightning leaves lasting impression

One of ISU's century-old sycamore trees was struck by lightning during Monday's storm. The bolt carved a vertical path as evidence.

Strong enrollment will bolster FY12 budget

Budget Memo No. 5, distributed last week from the provost to campus leaders, contained two pieces of good news: Projected tuition revenue, due to higher than previously anticipated fall enrollment, has crept upward, and cuts to state appropriations were not as severe as had been anticipated this spring. The net effect is a projected FY12 operating budget that's larger than last year's.

The world's smallest velodrome, designed and built by ISU architecture graduate students, was put to the test last week with public time trials and pursuit races.

Last of 2010 storm-damaged trees being cleared

The final phase of campus tree removals from last summer's storms is under way. The damage qualified for FEMA aid, which requires work to be completed within one year.
