Iowa State will confer an estimated 787 degrees during the Aug. 8 commencement ceremony. This is the final summer commencement.

Regents approve FY10 budget

ISU's operating budget, 3 percent lower than last year's, was one of the items approved at the Aug. 5 State Board of Regents meeting in Cedar Falls.

State fund advances ISU projects

The State Board of Regents approved $679,663 in competitive grants from the state's Grow Iowa Values Fund, a state economic development program. The grants will support seven new projects with the goal of developing technologies with commercial potential and supporting the growth of companies using those technologies.

Rest area recalls our road-building past

The new I-35 rest area, just south of Story City, touts both Iowa and Iowa State's transportation history. Among historical tidbits: ISU alumnus Thomas McDonald led the federal agency that laid 3 million miles of highways across the United States.

Welch/Union Drive section opens

Welch Avenue/Union Drive, between Lincoln Way and Bissel Road, reopened Wednesday after four weeks of repair and repaving.
