July 16, 2009 Staff tuition program sees record yearby Erin Rosacker One of the benefits offered to ISU employees is a tuition reimbursement program, which offers financial assistance to eligible merit and professional and scientific staff members. Last month, associate vice president for human resource services Carla Espinoza told P&S Council members that a record amount of funds were awarded last year. "This has been a rather interesting year -- the largest year so far," Espinoza said. Nearly half a million dollars was disbursed in 2008-09. Ninety staff members took summer courses ($94,051), while 177 and 168 employees were reimbursed for coursework in the fall ($190,198) and spring ($172,910) semesters, respectively. Beginning this summer, the program returned to a three-credit maximum reimbursement per semester. A four-credit maximum was implemented over the last two years, in which a combined total of $824,145 was disbursed. All but about 20 percent of that is spent on classes at ISU. |
