April 17, 2009 Live Green!New web site charts campus building energy usePerhaps you've been faithfully turning off lights, computers and other electronics around the office. Maybe over the winter, you dressed with an extra layer and resisted the urge to dial up the thermostat. Are the energy-conserving efforts of you and your colleagues working? A new web site makes it easy for occupants of every building on campus to find out how well they're doing in the university-wide campaign to Live Green. The site tracks monthly energy consumption for each building. A graph compares current energy use to three-year averages. The graph also charts progress in achieving a 15 percent reduction in energy consumption. The President's Advisory Committee on Energy Conservation and Global Climate Change has set a goal of reducing energy use on campus by 15 percent by 2015, said Merry Rankin, director of sustainability.
