National Public Radio's Michele Norris (left), pictured here with Dianne Bystrom, director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, visited ISU March 6 as the center's Mary Louise Smith Spring Chair. Her lecture, "Race, Gender and the Future of Leadership in America," also served as the keynote speech for the ISCORE conference. Norris spoke to an overflow crowd in the Memorial Union's Great Hall.

"When people talk about America heading toward a post-racial society, I have a hard time seeing that," Norris said in response to an audience question. "It almost seems like an effort to press the express elevator to the top floor where the view is wonderful, but where you don't have to get off anywhere and have a conversation that might be a little more difficult."
