Lynne Mumm, 2008-09 Professional and Scientific Council president

Position at ISU: Technology commercialization program manager, Institute for Physical Research and Technology (IPRT) Company Assistance

Arrived at Iowa State: Hired by the ISU Research Foundation in 1995, moved to IPRT in 2003.

Previous service on the council: Council member (2001-03, 2005-08); executive committee (2002-03, 2005-08); president-elect (2007-08); vice president (2003); secretary (2006-07); at-large officer (2002-03); communications committee member (2001-02); compensation and benefits committee member (2002-03; 2004-05) and chair (2004-05); peer advisory committee member (2006-08); policies and procedures committee non-council member (2003-04); university planning and budget committee member (2007-08)

Council's top goals this year:

  • Addressing salary issues
  • Developing and implementing policies related to recommendations in the P&S compensation structure study
  • Implementing a performance management policy and program
  • Advancing work/life balance accommodations
  • Augmenting learning and development opportunities for P&S staff
  • Using information and input gathered from the 2007 P&S staff survey
  • Monitoring the new resource management model

Thoughts on the year ahead:

"I think that in the last several years, P&S Council has really become more involved with decision-making on campus and provided more input. We've been given the opportunity to participate, and we need to take that seriously and provide the best input that we can to represent what P&S staff are thinking."

Issue that could be the most important to the council this year:

"The performance management policy. We know that president Geoffroy is very interested in salaries that are based on performance. To get there, and to be able to base increases on performance, you need to have good tools to do that."
