Aug. 29, 2008 Campaign Iowa State hits fund-raising recordby Paula Van Brocklin Ten months after its public launch, fund-raising numbers for Campaign Iowa State: With Pride and Purpose are on track. As of mid-August, the campaign had reached $596.7 million of its $800 million goal. The campaign concludes Dec. 31, 2010. "We are excited to see philanthropy at Iowa State reach this level," said Dan Saftig, president of the ISU Foundation. "Our generous Iowa State benefactors are committed to this university, and their support will be felt campus-wide." Record-breaking yearMore than 53,000 benefactors made gifts and future commitments totaling $135.4 million between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008, making it the largest fund-raising year in university history. Of the funds raised last year, $24.7 million was directed to faculty support, allowing ISU to establish the first two endowed deans' positions at the university. In addition, more than $32 million was designated for student support, providing 110 new scholarships and fellowships. Faculty and staff show supportIowa State employees are helping to boost those fund-raising numbers. So far, 3,473 employees have pledged $22.9 million to the campaign, with the majority of the money designated for students and programs. "We are incredibly grateful for the level of support we have received from our faculty and staff during this campaign," said president Gregory Geoffroy. "It's a testament to their commitment to this university, and it will have a tremendous impact in every corner of the institution."
