ISU on display at farm progress show

by Erin Rosacker

As the Iowa State Fair winds down, ISU is gearing up for another exhibit that will draw an estimated 100,000 visitors daily. The 2008 Farm Progress Show, which runs from Aug. 26 through Aug. 28, debuts its new location this year at the Central Iowa Expo grounds near Boone. The site boasts 116 acres at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and state highway 17.

ISU Extension and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will offer more than 30 displays at a combined "Providing Opportunities for Iowa's Future" exhibit. Indoor and outdoor displays will showcase ISU's research and programs benefiting farmers -- from bioeconomy to economic development. Student recruitment initiatives and youth displays also will be featured.

ISU researchers, specialists and staff will be available to meet with visitors, and WOI radio will air live reports and interviews on site. In all, ISU will occupy eight exhibit lots along Seventh Street and Central Avenue at the expo grounds.

The Farm Progress Show will alternate between locations in Boone and Decatur, Ill., over the next 20 years. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for youth.
