Online system will ease study abroad process

Beginning Aug. 25, students will be able to apply for most ISU spring 2009 study abroad programs using an online application called "ISUAbroad." The pilot period will include all programs sponsored by the Study Abroad Center and at least one offered by each college. By summer 2009, all ISU study abroad programs and applications will be available in ISUAbroad.

The new system will make it easier for students to complete study abroad applications and for study abroad program directors to review them. It also will significantly reduce paper use. ISUAbroad includes a searchable catalog of study abroad programs, electronic brochures and e-references, and a database that will enable university officials to better track students and programs. Workshops on ISUAbroad are planned for program directors and administrators. For information, contact Danette Bontrager, 4-6792.

FanFest is Aug. 24

The athletics department's Cyclone FanFest is Aug. 24 (1-3 p.m.) in the Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility. Fans can meet ISU coaches and athletes and tour the Jack Trice Stadium renovations. Children can participate in skill stations and enjoy inflatable games. Food, beverages and I-State merchandise may be purchased. Admission is free.

Alumni Hall becomes Enrollment Services Center Aug. 25

Effective with the beginning of fall classes on Aug. 25, the name of Alumni Hall will officially change to Enrollment Services Center, as was first announced in February. Because this building houses the admissions and registrar's offices, the new name will more accurately reflect the function of the building. The change also will prevent confusion with the new alumni center on Beach Avenue that alumni association staff moved into last month.

Watch for traffic congestion

Students living in the residence halls will be moving in Aug. 19-22. The department of residence suggests that faculty and staff avoid areas of campus where move-in congestion may occur, including Union Drive and Beach Road.

Destination Iowa State is Aug. 21-23

More than 3,500 first-time ISU students begin their university experience Aug. 21-23 with Destination Iowa State events. They include a kickoff picnic at the Iowa State Center Thursday evening, sessions on campus all day Friday and Late Night at the MU Friday evening, and community service projects and a performance by comedian Jamie Lissow Saturday.

Verification forms for work-study students are on AccessPlus

Paper Employment Verification Forms (EVFs) will not be mailed to students this year. Employers who hire students for work-study positions should complete the EVF on AccessPlus. See online instructions, or call the Student Employment Center at 4-JOBS.

Vet med center changes payment options

The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center now offers CareCredit as an additional form of payment for services. It will continue to accept MasterCard, VISA and Discover credit cards, and payments by cash and checks. Effective Aug. 15, the medical center will discontinue initiating new in-house payment plans, and charges to employee and student U-bills no longer will be accepted. More about CareCredit.

The social and service organization welcomes new women members who are ISU faculty and staff, or female spouses and relatives of ISU employees. The club sponsors four general assemblies, a holiday tea at The Knoll and a spring luncheon. For more information, contact Audrey Marley, smarley@isunet.net, 232-1394.
