New admissions requirements take effect in July

Beginning the week of July 7, ISU admissions officers will begin offering admission to fall 2009 freshman applicants. This is the first class of entering freshmen who will be held to the new freshman admission requirements for Iowa's three public universities, as approved by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, in December 2006.

For automatic admission to an Iowa regent university, this includes minimum course requirements and a score of at least 245 on the new Regent Admission Index (RAI). The index is the sum of these achievements (the index weights each):

  • ACT composite score (x 2)
  • High school rank, as a percentile (x 1)
  • High school GPA (x 20)
  • Number of high school core courses (x 5)

A committee of regent university employees determined that these four factors are the strongest predictors of success in college. Applicants whose RAI scores fall below 245 are reviewed individually. More information.
