Lunch discussion: Women working in the STEM fields

ADVANCE will hold a networking brown bag lunch, "Making a Career in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math): Three Women's Stories," from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in 240 Bessey. Presenters are Kristen Constant, associate professor in materials science and engineering; Lisa Larson, professor of psychology; and Becky Stadlman, director of human resources, Sauer-Danfoss, Ames. They will discuss research on gender-related issues of STEM disciplines, recruiting women into business and industry careers, and the challenges and rewards of academic careers. Annual snowblower service Nov. 9-10

The ISU Agricultural Systems Technology Club's annual snowblower service days are Friday, Nov. 9 (1-5 p.m.) and Saturday, Nov. 10 (8 a.m.-noon). Service costs $25 and includes oil and sparkplug change, air filter cleaning, greasing and a tank of gas. Snowblowers may be dropped off in the Davidson Hall courtyard during the service hours until 11 a.m. Saturday. Pickup and delivery in Ames is available for a $10 fee. Panel on immigration

A panel discussion, "Immigration: Human Rights in Our Neighborhood," will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, in 1227 Hoover. The focus is immigration issues within a human rights framework. University of Iowa's Center for Human Rights and ISU's Amnesty International student group are co-sponsors. ISU faculty members Loreto Prieto, U.S. Latino/a Studies Program, and Evely Gildersleeve, educational leadership and policy studies, are among the panelists.

Research center open house is Nov. 9

The Nutrition and Wellness Research Center's open house is from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. The center is in the ISU Research Park, 2325 N. Loop Dr., Building 6 (suite 6100). View facility tours (including the metabolic kitchen, dining areas, conference room, laboratories and exercise assessment room), student demonstrations and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
