Where did those extra salary dollars land?

by Anne Krapfl

The university's FY08 operating budget, for the year that began July 1, includes about $6.5 million for targeted faculty and Professional and Scientific salary increases above annual increases. About 75 percent of these funds were distributed July 1; the remaining will be distributed this fiscal year to address retention and other market issues as they arise.

Part of the additional salary dollars have been allocated to outstanding departments in high-priority academic disciplines that also face the most severe competition in the higher education marketplace. And part of the additional salary dollars have been or will be used to compensate excellent individuals whose salaries are not competitive or to address other equity or market issues. Dollars from both pools were allocated through a competitive process coordinated in the provost office this summer.

The following chart breaks down, by major units, where the dollars landed that were distributed in July.
