Hub to close Aug. 3

The Hub Cafe's last day of service for several months will be Friday, Aug. 3. A remodeled Hub Grill and Cafe is scheduled to reopen during the spring semester. The new concept will feature grilled items, a made-to-order deli, soups and packaged salads and sandwiches. Negotiations to bring Starbucks Coffee(r) to the Hub were unsuccessful, but work on a contract with another national coffee brand is ongoing.

Registration open for WelcomeFest

Booth registration is open until July 27 for WelcomeFest, which attracts more than 3,500 ISU students annually. Sponsored by the Student Activities Center, WelcomeFest introduces students to local businesses, community organizations and ISU departments. It will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Lied Center. Registrants pay $110 per booth. Poster presentation July 27

Summer research interns in the Program for Women in Science and Engineering will display their work in a poster presentation Friday, July 27. The keynote speech and presentation of certificates will be from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Molecular Biology Building auditorium. A reception and poster viewing will be from 2 to 3 p.m. in the adjacent atrium.

Meet, greet and move students

Again this year, the residence department is organizing move-in volunteers to provide new students with helping hands as they move to their new homes. Faculty and staff can volunteer by filling out the Move-In Crew form, online. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt. Shifts are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 14-15, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16. Contact Roy Salcedo, rsalcedo@iastate.edu, for more information.

ISU Day at the Iowa Cubs is Aug. 19

The ISU Alumni Association is offering discounted tickets for the Aug. 19 Iowa Cubs vs. Memphis Redbirds baseball game at Principal Park in Des Moines to ISU students, alumni, families, friends and fans. Tickets are $5.50 for alumni association members ($8 for nonmembers). There will be special seating for the group and drawings for ISU merchandise and other items. Game time is 1:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, contact Beth Lott, (877) ISU-ALUM, or go online to www.isualum.org/iowacubs. Tickets must be purchased by Aug. 9. Tickets will be available at the ISU Alumni Association table outside the stadium on game day from 11:35 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Summary

New faculty orientation, teaching seminar

Registration is open for New Faculty Orientation, Monday, Aug. 13, and the University Teaching Seminar, Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 14-15, in the Scheman Building. There is no charge for these events and meals are included. Department administrators should direct recent hires to db.celt.iastate.edu/ to register. Drop-down menus direct new tenure-eligible faculty, non-tenure-eligible faculty, and TAs to the appropriate registration pages. This site also can be reached via the CELT homepage.
