Shop for sesquicentennial items

by Anne Krapfl

Sesquicentennial lithograph

Framed color lithographs of the Sesquicentennial mural will be sold on central campus April 21.

Sesquicentennial merchandise will be sold in a tent south of the Campanile from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21. University Book Store and Sticks Inc., the Des Moines-based creators of the distinctive wood furniture and accessories, will share the space.

Sticks

Even if you haven't budgeted for any purchases, the tent is worth a stop. It will display the large (6-feet-by-8-feet), colorful wood mural commissioned for the sesquicentennial by the President's Office. Created by Sticks, it captures a lot of what people love about Iowa State: places, events, attitudes, people and history. It contains hundreds of images from actual submissions of what alumni, employees and friends find special about Iowa State. Sticks Inc. and University Museums contributed financially to the project and the mural will become part of the university's Art on Campus collection.

A final decision hasn't been made on where the mural will be displayed during the sesquicentennial year.

A limited number of framed color lithographs of the mural, numbered and signed by Sticks artist Sarah Grant, will be sold. The framed lithographs are $1,500, (pictured above).

Sticks also will sell these ISU-themed items:

  • Mirror, $550
  • Remote control box, $525
  • 10-inch-by-10-inch plaque, $205

University Book Store

The bookstore has ordered special clothing to help Iowa Staters observe the sesquicentennial. The items carry the sesquicentennial logo and include polo shirts, a red button-down shirt, baseball-style hats and a zip-up wind jacket. Also available that day will be the university's newest history book, A Sesquicentennial History of Iowa State University: Tradition and Transformation.

University Book Store in the Memorial Union will have extended Saturday hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) on April 21. Check out the store in its new addition to the MU.
