Sample the arts Sunday afternoon

The second annual "Sample the Arts" will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, in Stephens Auditorium. Billed as a day of music, theater and arts activities for the family, it is free and open to the public.

Some of the dozen or so local groups scheduled to participate are: ISU Theatre, Central Iowa Symphony, Ames Children's Choirs, Ames International Orchestra Festival Association, ACTORS and the Royal Scottish Dancers.

In addition to learning more about upcoming performances from local arts organizations, guests can take a backstage tour of Stephens, do crafts and other activities, and register to win tickets to performances in the 2006-07 "Season at Stephens" and other door prizes. Some of the groups will provide sample performances during the afternoon; others will sell tickets to performances.

Free beverages and ice cream will be served.

Organ series resumes Aug. 28

The music department's Monday Organ Series in Martha-Ellen Tye Hall resumes Aug. 28. Recitals begin at 5:30 p.m.

The free, half-hour, informal recitals will be held monthly this year on the last Monday of the month. They feature faculty, retired faculty and other guests. Stop in on your way off campus.

There are four sets of pipes on Iowa State's Brombaugh organ, corresponding to three hand keyboards and a row of foot pedals.
