Honors

Campus safety homepage

The Environmental Health and Safety homepage recently won third place in a homepage competition sponsored by the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association.

Distinguished service

Barbara Caldwell, associate professor of art and design, has received the 2006 Distinguished Service Within the Profession Award from the National Art Education Association. The award recognizes achievement and contributions to art education and to national and state art education associations. Caldwell is a co-director of the New Art Basics curriculum project that serves art educators throughout Iowa and the United States.

Chemistry research award

Mei Hong, professor of chemistry, was presented the 2006 Fay Morgan Research Award by the Iota Sigma Pi honor society for women in chemistry. The achievement award is given to women under 40 in the field of chemistry and biochemistry.

Advisers of the year

Thomas Greenbowe, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Steven Mickelson, College of Agriculture, were named the 2005-06 University Advisers of the Year by the provost's office. In addition, College Adviser of the Year Awards have been presented to Thomas Brumm, College of Agriculture; Deborah Noll, College of Business; Dana Reed, College of Design; Deborah DeWall, College of Engineering; Cindy Frederickson, College of Human Sciences; and Connie Ringlee, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Distinguished service

Larry Ebbers, University professor in educational leadership and policy studies, received a Distinguished Service Award at the 48th annual conference of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges. The award recognizes Ebbers' outstanding achievement, innovation and leadership of graduate programs that advance the study of community colleges.

Association fellow

Robert Martin, professor and chair of the department of agricultural education and studies, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for Agricultural Education.

Quality examiner

Chris Ahoy, associate vice president for facilities, was appointed to the 2006 board of examiners for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. Ahoy is one of approximately 500 experts chosen from several organizations to participate in the review and evaluation of applications submitted for the national performance award.

GLBT ally award

Ginny Arthur, associate director for residence life in the residence department, has received the Judy Spain Award from the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International. The award honors an active association member who is an advocate/ally, educator and/or mentor for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students and staff.
