Apply for internship

March 31 is the deadline to apply for a position in the university's Administrative Internship Program for 2006-07. Tenured faculty and P&S staff are eligible. Questions should be directed to 4-6410. Register now for women's leadership conference

The annual Iowa Women's Leadership Summit will be held April 28 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in the Memorial Union Sun Room. Women leaders from education, politics, business and non-profit organizations in Iowa will gather to discuss and develop strategies for building women's leadership in the state. There is no fee, but participants need to register by April 10 online at http://www.wlc.provost.iastate.edu. For more information, contact Siti Sabtu-Schaper, 4-9591.

Appreciation event for student employees

Iowa State's Office of Student Financial Aid will observe National Student Employment Week April 9-14. On Wednesday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., all students employed on or off campus are welcome in the ground floor of Beardshear Hall for free food and drawings for door prizes.

Veishea co-chairs, Geoffroy on Talk of Iowa

ISU students Eric Peterson and Jessica Lecy, co-chairs of the 2006 Veishea celebration, will join President Gregory Geoffroy during the 9 a.m. hour of Talk of Iowa Wednesday, April 5. The live, call-in program airs on WOI-AM 640.

LC institute

ISU's annual Learning Communities Institute, "The Adventure Starts Here," will be held May 8 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Scheman Building). Registration is free; receive a free LC book if you register by March 31. Information and registration material are online. Parks library course reserve

Instructors who wish to place required materials on reserve for summer or fall semesters should submit requests now. At the Library homepage (http://www.lib.iastate.edu): 1) Under "Classes & Tours," click "Reserve." 2) Click "Instructor forms & information." 3) Select desired form.

10 tons of phonebooks recycled

Results from last fall's campus phonebook recycling are in: 10 tons of phone books were recycled, which saved Iowa State nearly $500 in refuse tipping fees. ISU's Recycling Committee extends its thanks to all who participated and especially to custodial staff, building recycling volunteers, departmental telephone coordinators and the volunteers who helped collect the phone books.

Couples sought for relationship study

Couples married or living together are sought for a study that involves completing a survey and participating in two 10-minute problem-solving discussions (total time commitment is 90 minutes). Gay/lesbian as well as heterosexual couples are invited to participate. Weekday and evening appointments may be scheduled. Couples receive monetary compensation for participating. Avolio lecture is March 31

Bruce Avolio, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and director of the Gallup Leadership Institute, will discuss "Building Ownership in the Age of Inauthentic Leadership" March 31. The F. Wendell Miller Lecture begins at 1:30 p.m. in 2127 Gerdin. Avolio will discuss ways to enhance ownership in organizations, and present data from a poll of U.S. working adults on the "state of ownership." CYtation nominations sought

April 3 is the next nomination deadline for the P&S CYtation Award. The award recognizes individuals who have performed above and beyond the call of duty, done something extraordinarily well, or acted in such a way as to make a very real difference at Iowa State. Lecture on critical 2040discourse analysis

Education professor Rebecca Rogers, Washington University in St. Louis, will give a talk, "Critical Discourse Analysis: The Emergence and Evolution of a Methodological Movement," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in E164 Lagomarcino. Refreshments will be served.

Honor society awards ceremony is April 4

Agriculture honor society Gamma Sigma Delta's 2006 initiation and awards ceremony will be April 4 (5-6 p.m.) in the Memorial Union Sun Room. A reception will follow in the South Ballroom. Outstanding seniors and juniors will be recognized, and alumni and faculty awards will be presented. The ceremony is open to the public.

Dorsett named ISS director

James Dorsett has been named director of the Office of International Students and Scholars, effective April 24. Dorsett currently serves as director of the Office of International Students and Scholars at Wayne State University, Detroit.

Previously, he served as assistant director for services in the Office of International Affairs at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (2000-02).

Terry Mason, director of the Student Counseling Service, has served as interim director of ISS since June 2004, when former director Dennis Peterson retired.
