Student-run blood drive is March 6-10

The student-run spring blood drive will be held March 6-10 in Memorial Union Great Hall. Students hope to attract 2,100 donors to the week-long event. Donors can give during these hours: Monday and Thursday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m.-2 p.m. More information is online at http://www.stuorg.iastate.edu/bd.

Marrow donor drive on Feb. 28

ISU's Golden Key Honor Society will co-sponsor a bone marrow donor drive from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Memorial Union Great Hall. The Iowa Marrow Donor Program seeks potential donors of marrow that could be transplanted to patients with blood diseases. This first step involves filling out a health questionnaire and giving a small sample of blood for tissue typing.

Science fair judges sought

Volunteer judges are sought for the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa (March. 24-25, Hilton Coliseum). To volunteer, complete the online registration at http://www.sstfi.iastate.edu/judges.shtml.

Student study participants sought

The psychology department has several studies that require third- to 12th-grade participants. The studies involve video games, reaction times, personality and cognition. No experience is required. Signed consent from a parent or guardian is required. The studies are conducted on campus and students must get their own transportation. For more information, call 4-1804 or e-mail ISUpsych@gmail.com; provide your child's name, grade and a phone number to contact you. Children can not have participated in a previous video game study at ISU.

English short course begins March 7

The Intensive English and Orientation Program will offer a short course for international graduate students, visiting scholars and faculty/staff. The course focuses on conversational skills, cross-cultural comparisons and current events. It will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 7-May 2, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $150. Post student jobs through AccessPlus

On-campus employers now can post their part-time job openings for student employees through AccessPlus. The new system allows the Student Employment Center to post jobs more quickly and offers more options for employers. Budget update is topic of open forum

The university budget being developed for FY07 is the topic of a March 2 open forum sponsored by the P&S Council. Ellen Rasmussen, assistant provost, and Mark Chidister, assistant to the president for budget planning and analysis, will lead a discussion from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Gallery.

Open house for ISU's supercomputer

An open house for the unveiling of the BlueGene/L Supercomputer will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in 206 Durham Center. Refreshments and tours will be provided. Hosts include the electrical and computer engineering department, Information Technology Services and the Information Infrastructure Institute.

Seminar on dog behavior is March 7

Dr. Kim Langholz, ISU Community Practice Veterinarian, will lead a free public seminar, "Understanding Canine Behavior: What Your Dog Doesn't Want You to Know," from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in 2532 Vet Med.

Fox named controller

Associate controller Stephanie Fox recently was promoted to university controller. Johnny Pickett, associate vice president for business and finance, had been serving in both the associate VP and controller post.

Registration open for P&S development day

Online registration is open for the annual P&S Professional Development Day March 28 at the Hotel at Gateway Center, Ames. The keynote speech by Pat Hurley will be on the theme "Get A Life." A detailed agenda and registration form are online.
