Show highlights Sondheim

Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim is responsible for some of the most popular musical theater during the past 50 years. Those songs have been pieced together in a revue, Side by Side by Sondheim, which ISU Opera Studio will present at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10-11, in Tye Hall, Music Building.

"All the songs in the show revolve around relationships -- love, marriage and breaking up," said Mary Creswell, music faculty, and show director.

Side by Side by Sondheim is a cabaret-like show, which features selections from Sondheim's first 25 years on Broadway.

Songs will be performed by a nine-member cast and include such classics as "Love is in the Air," "Send in the Clowns," "Let Us Entertain You," "A Boy Like That" and "Anyone Can Whistle."

A narrator will keep the show flowing, as cast members enter and exit the stage.

"This is very sophisticated, challenging music, yet the tunes are catchy," Creswell said.

The $5 tickets will be available at the door.
