Volunteers needed for Ames Lab/ISU Science Bowl

The annual Ames Lab/ISU High School Science Bowl will be Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in the Memorial Union. Approximately 90 scientific and nonscientific volunteers are needed to help serve as judges, moderators, timekeepers and scorekeepers. International grants program for 2005-2006

The Council on International Programs has issued a call for proposals of up to $5,000 for internationalization/globalization grants to be spent by June 30, 2006. Proposals are due Nov 4. More information is online at http://www.iastate.edu/~cip/Grants/Grant.html.

Open house for Pearson offices

The Graduate College, Office of Research Compliance and Office of Sponsored Programs Administration will host an open house for all faculty and staff from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in their remodeled offices, 1137 and 1138 Pearson.

Volunteers sought to collect phonebooks

Volunteers -- students and employees -- are being recruited to help pick up campus phonebooks for recycling on Saturday morning, Dec. 3. Boxes of collected phonebooks must be outside buildings at designated locations at the end of the day Friday, Dec. 2. Contact Norm Hill, Central Stores, 4-5752, nhill@iastate.edu, to volunteer for the Saturday pick-up. If you need collection boxes or information posters for your building, contact Hill.

Open forum on benefits Nov. 4

Tim Ashley, manager of the benefits office, will lead an open forum on ISU Plan benefits for the plan year that begins Feb. 1, 2006, at noon Friday, Nov. 4, in the Memorial Union Oak Room. He'll summarize plan and rate changes and respond to questions.

Info session for new learning communities

Corly Brooke and Doug Gruenewald, co-directors of learning communities at ISU, will discuss how to start a new learning community during an information session from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in 234 Memorial Union. EH&S open house

Staff in the department of environmental health and safety invite faculty and staff to an open house at their new facility from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. The new EH&S building is at 2809 Daley Dr. Refreshments will be served.

Snowblower service days

The Ag Systems Technology Club and the student branch of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers will service snowblowers on Friday, Oct. 28 (1-5 p.m.), and Saturday, Oct 29 (8 a.m.-2 p.m.) in the Davidson Hall courtyard. Service costs $30 and includes oil change, new sparkplug, cleaned air filter and fresh gas. Pick-up and delivery is available for $15. Call Sue, 4-0462, by 2 p.m. Oct. 27 to request pickup. Apple sale

The ISU Hort Club will hold its apple sale at Reiman Gardens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22-23 on the entry bridge to the gardens.
