Englin to direct residence department

by Annette Hacker

Pete Englin, dean of students since 2000, has been named director of the department of residence, effective July 1. His appointment is pending approval by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa.

Englin was selected for the position following a nationwide search. He succeeds Randy Alexander, who left the university July 1, 2004. Todd Holcomb, associate vice president for student affairs, has directed the department of residence during the interim.

"Pete's administrative experience as leader of a major unit in Student Affairs, coupled with his experience in the department of residence, position him to be successful in his new role," said vice president for student affairs Tom Hill.

Hill said he will name an interim dean of students and a search committee to fill that position this summer.

Before becoming dean of students, Englin was a coordinator of residence life (1991-1999) and marketing and conference coordinator (1989-1991) at Iowa State. He holds a bachelor of science degree in zoology and a master of science in education from North Dakota State University, Fargo; and a doctorate in hotel, restaurant and institution management and family and consumer science education from Iowa State.

Englin said many of his most cherished memories come from his days in the Department of Residence. "I am honored to continue to serve students and follow the footsteps of people like J.C. Schilletter, Chuck Frederiksen, and Randy Alexander," he said.
