New options open in MU food court

by Anne Krapfl

Three new restaurants opened Jan. 10 in the Memorial Union food court.

ISU Dining selected the three venues to give students, faculty, staff and guests a greater variety of food options on campus, said Janell Meyer, assistant director for retail operations.

The new restaurants are:

  • Sunset Strips, offering a variety of chicken entrees, including breaded and grilled sandwiches, chicken strips and bites, and blazing chicken wings.
  • Fresh Burrito Works, where patrons build their own burritos, starting with marinated grilled steak, char-grilled chicken, pulled pork with chili sauce, or fajita vegetables. The menu also includes lime cilantro rice and fresh tortilla chips with guacamole or salsa. Fresh Burrito Works is an ISU Dining concept. Executive chef Karla Boetel and LeAnne Sundine, supervisor of the Memorial Union kitchen, developed the recipes.
  • Greek Odyssey Cafe, which offers traditional and chicken gyro sandwiches, wrap sandwiches, a variety of Greek salads, chicken souvlaki (a kabob) and pita chips with hummus.

The first two restaurants offer new menus for options -- Mexican and chicken -- previously offered in the food court. Noting that ISU Dining receives requests for more ethnic foods, Meyer said the Greek Odyssey Cafe helps broaden the variety of choices in the food court. ISU "Dining Dollars" will be accepted at the new restaurants.

The MU food court also continues to feature Tomassito's Italian Cafe, Panda Express, Subway, McDonald's, Hearthstone and the Grab-n-Go deli case.
