Inside on break

This is the last issue of Inside during fall semester. Inside will resume its normal publication schedule on Jan. 14, 2005.

Building of the century

Faculty and staff are invited to a Dec. 14 celebration of Stephens Auditorium. Iowa architects recently hailed Stephens as the "building of the century." RSVP by Dec. 10 to 4-1313 or mlking@iastate.edu. The reception is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the Stephens stage; a program will begin at 6 p.m. Enter at the southeast or southwest doors.

Portrait unveiled

A ceremony to unveil a copy of a portrait of Richard Willham, emeritus Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, in the Kildee atrium. The original was unveiled last month in the gallery of the Saddle and Sirloin Club, Louisville, which contains portraits of more than 300 of the world's top agricultural leaders.

Closed for renovation

The Special Collections department, 403 Parks Library, will be closed Dec. 20 through mid-January for renovation of its reading room. For research assistance or information about transferring records to the archives during this period, call 4-6672 or e-mail spclref@iastate.edu. The university records retention schedule is online at http://www.lib.iastate.edu/spcl/arch/retention.html.

Reserve materials now

Instructors who plan to place required materials on library reserve for spring semester should submit requests now. Information on reserving material electronically is available at http://www.lib.iastate.edu/class/ers/ereserve.html.

Free evening child care

Free evening child care will be available from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Dec. 13-16, at the ISU Family Resource Center, 100 University Village. An evening meal will be provided for parents and children to share, and a study room with Internet access will be available. Priority will be given to ISU student families. Preregistration is required and enrollment is limited. Contact the center at 4-9838.

Get on GIS mailing list

The next newsletter for the College of Design's GIS (Geographic Information System) program will be mailed in late January and include information on recent student projects and upcoming short courses. Study abroad training

The Study Abroad Program will sponsor a series of training sessions for program directors in January. All sessions run from noon to 1:30 p.m. in 258 Memorial Union. To register, call 4-6792 or e-mail studyabroad@iastate.edu (indicate which sessions you'll attend). The schedule is:

  • Jan. 24, Submitting proposals for group programs
  • Jan. 25, Training for new program directors
  • Jan. 26, Risks and liability in study abroad and emergency training for program directors
  • Jan. 27, Roundtable discussion with the ISU offices of risk management and university counsel

Medical flex deadline extended

The deadline for faculty and staff to make changes to their medical flexible spending account has been extended until 3 p.m. Dec. 30. Enrollment for all other benefit options has closed. Changes to medical flex accounts must be requested in writing, either through e-mail (send to benefits@iastate.edu) or on paper (send to Benefits Office, 3350 Beardshear).
