September 10, 2004 Bleacher Bums looks at baseball fanaticismAs Major League Baseball winds down to the end of the regular season, ISU Theatre will honor the game with six performances of Bleacher Bums Sept. 24-Oct. 3. The story is set in the famed outfield bleachers at Chicago's Wrigley Field, home of the National League's Cubs. On this day, the Cubs are playing long-time rival St. Louis. The unlikely group of spectators includes a die-hard fan, a sun-worshipping bathing beauty attending her first game, a blind man who follows the game via his transistor radio, a professional gambler, a nerdy boy and a married couple. They bet among themselves; go out to buy hot dogs, frosty malts and beer; and -- occasionally -- watch the game. Theater faculty member Jane Cox is directing Bleacher Bums. The cast of Bleacher Bums surrounds superfan (ISU junior Ken Oishi) as he cheers for the Cubs. Photo by Patrick Gouran. |
