Geoffroy, Brown on Talk

President Gregory Geoffroy will be joined by Robert Brown, director of the Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies and professor of mechanical engineering, during the 9 a.m. hour of the Sept. 21 edition of Talk of Iowa on WOI Radio (AM 640). Faculty-staff appreciation day

The Cyclone women's soccer team invites faculty and staff to an appreciation day Sept 19. The team plays Youngstown State at 2:30 p.m. at the soccer complex. The day includes free admission with ISU ID Card, door prizes and a free youth skills clinic led by Cyclone players and coaches following the game. Camp Reiman in November

On Nov. 1, 4, 5 and 29, when Ames elementary schools are not in session, Reiman Gardens is sponsoring "Camp Reiman" for first- through sixth-graders (8 a.m.-5 p.m., $40/day includes lunch and snacks). Pre-registration is required. For more information, call Linda Naeve, 4-8946.

Extension open houses

Three ISU Extension units will hold open houses from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. Continuing Education and Communication Services' distance education office is in 33 Curtiss. The IDEA (Information Development-Expanding Awareness) office and ISU Outreach Academy are in 26 Curtiss. The university community is invited.

Overseas opportunities

The International Opportunities Fair, sponsored by the Study Abroad Center, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, in the Memorial Union Great Hall. The fair will feature both ISU and national programs that offer opportunities to work, study or volunteer abroad.

College combo forum set

Participants at a Sept. 13 open forum will discuss the name and mission for the college that may be created by combining the colleges of Family and Consumer Sciences and Education. the forum will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the Memorial Union Campanile Room.

Staff death

  • Allen Stole, data technician with Administrative Technology Services, died Sept. 3. Stole had been with ATS since 1985.

Appointments

  • Alan Goldman, professor of physics and astronomy, to division director for Science and Technology at Ames Laboratory, effective Sept. 1. He succeeds the retiring David Hoffman.
  • Steffen Schmidt, University Professor of political science, to LAS director of international programs.

Fall convocation is Sept. 27

Faculty and staff will be honored and President Gregory Geoffroy will speak briefly about the academic year ahead during the university convocation at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in the Memorial Union Sun Room.
